I made a pumpkin and walnut risotto which turned out rather well. It all depends on the quality of the pumpkin, of course, but the one I bought is a cracker. It's bright orange inside and very sweet. Tonight I'm going to try making gnocchi with pumpkin and spinach. And then I'll just have to come up with another ten recipes and I'll have used all the pumpkin.
Here's a wee photo of some pumpkins made into lanterns. When I was a teacher, I organized a pumpkin lantern day for my students and they made these. It seemed like a really good idea when I was planning it and all the other staff thought it was brilliant, but it turned out to be a really tense day for me after I realized that I had just armed them all with kitchen knives and given them the extremely difficult and dangerous task of carving up pumpkins. Even if they had spent the lesson on task, I'd have been worried about accidents. Accidents happen, as they say.... Damn right they do... especially when the kids are tooled up and sliding about on pumpkin innards on a lino floor. But, I soon realized that the possibility of a knife slipping and cutting someone's finger off was to be the least of my worries, when the kids decided pumpkin lanterns were boring and it would be funnier to chase each other around the room pretending to be psycho knife-murderers. I had to bribe the little shits with prizes for the best lantern to keep them under control.
After we'd done the lanterns (nobody died, by the way, and I didn't get arrested) I had to spend the evening dressed up as a bear. It was a really stinky costume and I was sweating buckets in it. So were the last twenty people who wore it, I think. We organized a disco for the kids and I had to stay right till the end because my lot were the oldest and they were allowed to stay till midnight. I nipped outside a couple of times for a cig and on one occasion a couple of policemen decided to hassle me. They asked for my ID and of course I didn't have it - no pockets in the bear costume. That turned out to be the perfect excuse, because they couldn't demand money. 'Sorry guys... no pockets.' Anyway... they went away without any more hassle and I went back inside for a bit more sweaty dancing. The kids were getting into techno at that time. Can you imagine dancing to techno in a bear suit? Halloween can be really shit.
I kinda got off topic there. If anyone else needs a pumpkin recipe. Have a look at my pumpkin recipe page and you might get some ideas. You'll see the pumpkin picture again too. I'm a great believer in recycling.
Bye the way, I also made a new page for my site with sounds on it.I've made a few tracks using my Audacity programme and I thought I'd post them. Absolutely nothing to do with vegetarian cooking, of course, but , hey, it's my website. If I want to post sound tracks and cartoons and stuff, I can. And someone might just enjoy them. Now, that would be good.
