Vegetarian Sushi in Berlin

posted Monday, 31 March 2008

Papa No's is located in Kreuzberg district, an area with lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants of many nationalities. The area seems to be predominantly Turkish - I wondered if this is where David Bowie was living when he wrote and recorded the albums 'Low' and 'Lodger'. He said it was in the Turkish quarter of Berlin - but as far as eateries go, there are also a lot of South Asian places and we chose Papa No's because it advertised vegetarian sushi.

We had sushi with avocado and Sesame seed followed by veggie pad thai - both of them were delicious! If you're in Berlin, Papa No's is on Oranienstrasse 191, near Kottbusser Tor or Gorlitzer Banhof U-bhan station. Highly recommended..

I also put up the rest of our Berlin photos today.

Nope, this is not where he lived. He lived in other areas in West Berlin - Schoeneberg and Neukolln - for a while. But still, this area in Kreuzberg is fascinating, and has lots of interesting history. Any geek will tell you that it was on Oranienburger Strasse that Zosse has developed his first computer; there were many clashes with the police and a strong squatter movement in Kreuzberg. Papa No has several other branches in the city: in Prenzlauer Berg and in Friedrichshain.
